Melting Clocks - It's about Time

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven” - this phrase from the Book of Ecclesiastes first came to our mind when our friend Yossi Sassi, a talented composer and guitarist, described the concept of his first solo album “Melting Clocks” and asked us to make a series of visual compositions. The music turned out to be very unusual and multifaceted, it therefore ignited our imagination. But, no matter how close the composer is to us, if his music hadn't touched us emotionally, this series of works would not have been born.
We honestly told Yossi that we do not intend to make illustrations or a series of visually appealing photographs, but we can create self-sustained conceptual works, which, together with the music, will create something even greater: a new and unique conceptual piece of art.

A video-Art created by Dina Bova based "Melting Clocks" track from Yossi Sassi solo album.

Let’s stop for a moment and introduce the main characters in this story:

- Yossi Sassi - a talented composer, who wrote most of the repertory for the famous ethnic metal band Orphaned Land,, a virtuoso guitarist with a most original style.

- Dina Bova – a photo surrealist with a unique style, who creates a new reality that conveys deep philosophical concepts, true emotions and surrealistic paradoxes. She is the winner of over 350 international photography awards in 24 countries.

- And finally me, Gadi Boleslavsky - the author of this article together with Dina, a founder of Beauty Saves the World project and a co-author of the ideas of some Dina's works. In those cases where the text says WE – I’m referring to Dina and to myself.

The album name “Melting Clocks” is by definition closely associated with Salvador Dali. So we understood that we could not avoid this association no matter the kind of artwork created on this subject. There was no attempt neither to imitate Dali nor to avoid any association with Dali's work at all costs. Dina simply followed her mood and imagination and this work turned out to be unusual and self-sustained. Dina gave her work a title with a double-meaning “It is about Time” and it has become a philosophical beginning of the series of works about how we perceive time and how we feel in its rapid flow.

Its about Time
"It's about Time"

Our time is inundated with bad news. And it’s not because there are more bad events nowadays than in past, it’s because bad news has nowadays become a consumer product, a mass-media narcotic, a hallucinogen that turns a bright summer day into a nightmare of Hitchcock and an average person into a paranoid psycho.

Perfect Day
"Perfect Day"

Today, life is running at a mad pace. And certainly most of us often feel like slaves, chained to clocks. Sometimes it seems as if we are sleeping with a stopwatch in our hands. In this hustle and bustle of everyday life, we do not even notice that days are drowning in a river of time and that life is running through our fingers. Can we stop for a moment and ask ourselves where are we rushing? Do we have the power to break this routine and do something significant?

Silence Before
"Silence Before"

Every day we are preoccupied with time - while looking at our watch, setting an alarm clock, making plans, hurrying somewhere or being late. We use the word "time" quite a lot, but most of us don’t really understand what time really is. Time cannot be touched, seen or heard. We only know that time is responsible for the changes constantly occurring to us and around us. But in time everything is relative. We often feel that all good things, no matter how long they last - end too quickly, and all the bad things last for an unbearably long time.

Relativity (Time traveler)
"Relativity (Time Traveler)"

It’s difficult to find words that can convey the extent of human despair of a person pushed into a corner by all sorts of routine problems, bad news and bills… Sometimes we feel so tired that we want to stop time and wash out the remains of the day.

The Remains of the Day
"The Remains of the Day"

But we must find our strength and follow our dreams. The show must go on even if you’re surrounded by sandy wilderness and a desert of human souls. And it doesn’t matter if no one listens to you.  A creator must create, not for fame, but because he can’t live without creating.

A Voice in the Wilderness
"A Voice in the Wilderness"

Following her inspiration, Dina has created a series of unique masterpieces that have already received numerous international awards. Dina's artworks are fine by themselves, so is the music of Yossi. But when this music and visual art merge together, they create something even greater. This is what we can call - the SYNERGY OF ART…

With these artworks, Dina has also created an artistic booklet for the “Melting Clocks” disk. There’s a perfect harmony between the lyrics and the artworks, which together create an emotionally powerful mutual concept.
